Slow Network - How to reduce lag on MMORPGs? I'm on a shared network and experience tons of lag while playing MMORPGs. When playing the same game on my home network with the same computer, I never experience lag, so I'm guessing the slowness is coming from the connection. Final Fantasy XI Network Lag? I've recently bought FFXI and have been playing for about 3 days. So far i've experianced some REALLY bad lag, the network/connection kind. Im coming from another MMO that has superior graphics and 10x the population of people than FFXI has, but my lag is horrible. Im running an 8mbs cable connection and no other program requiring the use of the internet is having any issues. Another bit of information is that im NOT running the latest expansion, i am using Chains of Proxxxxx. That shouldnt make a difference, though. I've tried renewing my IP, but that has done me no good, im not sure what else to try. I also forgot to mention that i experienced no such lag from the MMO that i am coming from. I appreciate your help, blue. However the solution to my problem does not ly within the bound of lag by certain area/populations in the game. The game im coming from is Lineage 2, a game in which there are up to a 1,000 people in a town by the name of Giran nightly w/ shops up. (due to thier not being an auction system). In FFXI, however, i lag everywhere. People around me or not. The solution to my problem its much more technical. The only thing i can think of is square changed thier access ports with the release of Treasure of xxxxxxx expansion.
Sibling related slowdown network lag? Throughout the year, I have perfectly fine internet, I can surf, game, upload work to my website just fine, but for the one month a year my brother visits, the entire network comes to a standstill and I experience 999 pings on games and constant disconnects, what could he be doing that is causing this?
Can using skype over a network cause game lag? If I make a call to someone on the same local network as myself with Skype, does the connection go through the the modem, or just the router? What about with a conference call between 2 people on the same network and one person on an outside connection, is there more than one connection going through the modem, or is it consolidated into one connection through the modem to the one person outside the network? Hope that makes sense. I understand that I don't have unlimited bandwidth on my internet connection, but I want to know if skype will even connect to the internet or not if I call someone on the same local network as myself.

Networking 2 Xbox 360s into a local network, lag free? Hello, just a couple of question. I currently have a LAN with a 4 port router, with 3 Pcs and 1 Xbox 360 hooked up. The Xbox 360 is also hooked up to live. But now i want to hook up another Xbox 360 to the network, but i dont have any ports left. Is there an easier way to hook it up into the network, rather then having to buy another router or switch board? i have seen those usb ethernet adapters, do they work ? Also if i can network them in, is it possible to have 2 Xbox 360s running at the same time, and both hooked up to Live on different accounts? and if so, will it be lag free?

Am I the only one who gets serious lag on GTA:IV playing on the PSN network? I mean, so much lag that I'm invincible and cannot kill anyone. It usually only happens in freeplay mode but it happens quite a bit. And I think everyone else in the room/channel/whatever is also affected because you don't see "person 1 kills person 2." Anyone else noticed this? Is it just PSN?

Decent size Network - with lag spikes.? Im currently running a decent size home network and experiencing some lag spikes, even when playing games purely through LAN not internet. I'm currently running on the network: Imac 24" top end specs, Macbook Pro 17" top end specs, Time Capsule 500gb (using as a wireless router), HP printer (wireless connection), Netgear access point, Belkin N1 wireless router, 2 laptops and 1 normal pc. It's not a constant lag and i've tried cutting down on which routers i have on and connecting throughout the house but lag spikes are still there, even with cable plugin or wireless and only 2 people in the game. Please Help! Ive tried to turn off devices that arent in use. and routers restarted.
PS3 Network Online Lag!!!? I recently loaded Playstaition Network on my PS3 and every game I play there is a very noticable lag in the game. Its almost not worth playing its so bad. I am using a Linksys wireless router and it says my connection is 100% so I dont believe its my lack of connection. I tried playing at all time of the day and night to see if there just might be too many people playing and that wasn't the case. Is there any way to help this lagging issue? Thanks. (I was playing MLB 08) All of my computers are running just fine online with no lag.

How do i fix network lag? Running Windows XP, WRT54G2 router, and WMP54G pci card. I've tried changing the MTU and beacon interval, disabling all firewall options, moving the router, restarting the modem and router, and moving the computer. I don't know what else there is to do. I only notice it when i initially use the internet connection and during online games when i get lag spikes. I've already searched yahoo answers and google for how to fix it but with no luck. Best Answer is someone can help me solve this problem. Buying new hardware is not an option. Thanks. Yes, I have security enabled.
Slowdown/Lag on Network? Our family has two computers and an Xbox 360 on our network, and all three are usually connected at the same time. My brother thinks that this is causing lag on the Xbox 360, since it started lagging at approximately the same time as we got our second computer. However, we moved it to a new location at approximately the same time, too. So, is it possible/likely that the second computer being on the network is causing lag on the Xbox 360?

Lag on computer network? I'm kind of confused, and annoyed. I am a techie, but don't understand this. I have a dsl modem, and a linksys router. I have my xbox 360 (which is not currently in use online), and two computers, and a laptop via wireless. My issue, is when both computer run counter-strike source, there is huge lag, regardless of settings. If one computer is running the game, and the other is not, the computer lags drastically when the other computer joins a server, and visa verse. Even while browsing the internet, and both computers are in use, with any media, or just browsing, both lag. I don't understand what is causing this lag via the network. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks The router and modem are both new. Both computers are set to high priority. It makes no difference if set on low instead. I don't see any ip conflicts at all. There's no reason why the modem should be slow. It's new, and I have 960 Kbps dl speed, and 760 up. Both computers are wired to the router. Only the laptop is on wireless. What do you mean by hub?
How to avoid the "lag" in network games? I'm playing a mod(totally legal version of a game) of MVP baseball 2005 versus some friends from Venezuela and Spain , I just join or host a online game by using a direct ip address provided by the hamachi network (not my real ip address) , we start to play and every single game we suffer of "lag"(I don't know if it can be defined as lag). What really happens is that when my rival pitches the ball , I make a swing but the swing is late even being on time , because of the distance between the two computers so what I see in the game isn't what is really happening , what I see is something that happened in about 1 second.I don't know if you can understand me , but I need a solution for this problem(can be a program or other option) PLEASEEEEEEEEE! thank you.
Will More than one xbox on my wireless network slow it down? If I wanted to have more than one xbox connect wirelesly to one router, will it slow down the network, or create lag in the xboxes?

Do any of you know a simple Wireless Network Manager? I have been experiencing problems with the Widows WLAN auto config service in Vista that connects to wireless networks as it lag spikes every 60 seconds in search of new networks. This has gotten really annoying...So instead I was thinking of disabling it in services and finding a third party Wireless Network Manager that would connect me to my network. Do any of you know of such?
Lag problems... home network and gaming.? There are three computers hooked up to our cable modem in our house, 2 desktops and 1 laptop. There is no wireless. My desktop runs Vista, the other two computers run on XP. My desktop and my boyfriend's laptop are the two used most often, the other desktop is very rarely ever used or left turned on. My boyfriend and I often go on our computers at the same time, we spend a good chunk of time on them, the problem... my computer seems to suffer ridiculous lag only when my boyfriend logs into Ventrilo and starts playing games like Guild Wars, Counter Strike, or F.E.A.R. - he sometimes also forgets that he has MSN messenger running in the background whilst he's on Ventrilo and one of those games. The lag on my computer gets so bad that I can't play the games I want to play, visit my websites to check up on my stuff, or even go on messenger to chat with friends... but his computer suffers very little to no lag at all. Whenever I tell him about it he tells me that what he does on his computer will have no effect on how well the internet functions on mine... is that true? Is it just a coincidence or is there something that I can do to resolve this issue? Also, the severity of the lag seems to increase even more when the third computer is also using the internet. Broadband, 1549280 bps, is the speed. Our internet provider was supposed to have "upgraded" our connection - everything was supposed to run faster, but everything seems to be worse than it was before. =/ I'd like to hear from someone experienced please, also someone who can explain things in Lehman's... I'm not particularly tech-smart, haha. One more thing, getting a second connection run into the house isn't an option for us.
need help with wireless network constantly giving bad lag? Im just curious before I go out to buy a new receiver whether it matters or not. I had issues with a previous wireless router and was tired of dealing with bad tech support, so i went out and bought a new linksys wireless router. The signal is this new "G" (or w/e) signal. After I got it the other computer works fine wireless but mine has constant lag and disconnects. Im curious to know if the reason is because my receiver runs on a 802.11 signal.
How do you lag a router? I am using a router and I want to lag everyone on the network??!@ HAHAHAH How do you do that?
How do you stop lagging on xbox live if you have a wireless network adapter? I bought a 130$ wireless network adapter and when i plugged it in to my xbox 360, it kept lagging. I tried playing halo 2 on it and on the four steps process took like an hour. Someone tell me what's wrong, is it the wireless network adapter or am I doing something wrong?

Whats the difference between the xbox360 wirless network adaptors? I need to buy a network adaptor for my xbox to go on live but there are two: -White with one antenae -Black with two antenae What's the difference? Also, should I save money and just share the connection from my laptop through ethernet or will this cause lag?
How do I increase the link speed of a network bridge? I recently bridged my wireless connection to my local area connection in order to play xbox live. It works, however, I experience long periods of lag on both my xbox and the computers throughout my house. I discovered that my computer is only allowing 1 mbps of "link speed" to the network bridge. If I increase the "link speed", will it reduce the lag? If so, how do I do it? My wireless connection is running at 11 mbps.
Is there a way to reduce lag on my home network? I have an xbox 360 connected wirelessly and a blu ray player connected wirelessly to my wireless router. It's the standard Qwest actiontec router/modem. Whenever anybody is on Netflix on the blu ray player I lag really bad on xbox live. I am stuck with Qwest's 1.5mbps connection. Is there anything I can do to be able to run both of these devices simultaneously without them interfering with each other? 1.5mbps is all I can get. That is as fast as Qwest offers it in my area. There are no other providers where I live.
I have networking issues. I use a D-Link router connected to a NetGear switch? The network lags bad. Help me.? I'm currently working for a company that is experiencing a lag in their network. I've been doing so research on their equipment and they use a D-Link Router that's connected to a NetGear switch. The equipment is fine. I'm wondering if this could be an ISP issue. Connect to network lags and freezes? Where I go even at home, When I try to connect to a wireless network 1. click on the two computer monitor with X icon in the bottom right hand corner 2. go to control panel and click connect to a network It super lags and i cant connect. the screen pops up but it stays blank for long time. for the first way, a pop up appears asking me if i want to connect to network, diagnos and repair ect...but i cant click on it.. lag I guess, but when i can click, same problem a window pops up but its blank and takes long time to load. after it loads however I can connect I am wondering is it like this? can i connect to the internet faster?
after securing my network my internet is lagging? last friday i secured my wireless router using the WEP and eversince than I am having lagging internet. I have comcast high speed cable internet and at times it is slower than dial up. I pinged the router/modem and comcast and it pings fine. I know its not a bandwith problem because I am only using to computers and nothing else and when I do use my nintendo ds one of the computers is off. When I call comcast they say it not a problem on their end. When you secure your network does it mess with the speed of the network or is it something else that might be wrong. thank you in advance for any help and have a nice day. I turned off the wep and the internet is faster. I think it might be comcast. I just did a tracert to comcast.net and many comcast servers kept timing out. going to give them a call and find out. the main one that kept timing out was the homewood il. okay after turning off the WEP it was still slow so I powercyled the modem and router and all is good.
I originally play with one xbox on a wireless network, and, it doesn't lag at all, but, if I hook up two.... ....xbox's, will it lag more? Here's my new setup. http://masterowns.com/SlavaOwns/Kurd/Other%20Stuff/Connection%20copy.jpg
How can I lag or spam up my own home network to annoy others or cap another users speed? Got 3 computers on a home network, all running xp, we all directly connect to the adsl modem, and aren't setupto remotely access each others, the thing is got a teen here who abuses our traffic limit and band width. Uses up all our downloads, watches youtube clips while I'm trying to game causing me to lag. I'dlike to return the favour as asking him to have some self restraint doesn't seem to work. is there something I can do or use to just ping the net or something from my machine? any software I can installon his machine when he aint about that can control his net speed so he can't hog the bandwidth without him being aware? (he'spretty uselesswith the technical sideof things, like realising 100 minutes of youtube at high quality is about 1 gig of data.He isn't my kid so I can't just confiscate his computer and kick his ass out the door to get a life and some sun like I would if it were my child, so any suggestion or possible legal solutions would be good. Sick of having to purchase extra data blocks so I can do my work, play my games etc etc. Some way to cap his rate invisibly as I said, would be great. Thanks in advance. Thanks Colanth, I'm not really concerned about lagging up all the puters. It's just to make the kid experience some of the frustration he is causing others. I can happily stop it when I want to use the net. Alotof downloading software has "bandwidth speed" settings, so you can cap how much of the bandwidth afiledownload uses. I'll have to look around for some software that will run unseen in the background on his puter that can do that to his LAN connection so he can only use "his 3rd" of the bandwidth.
How do I stop or slow down game room lag? On my main pc I seem to have a lot of lag in game rooms. But on my other pc which is on the same network & modum works fine. The main pc has more memory & a larger processor. Also I reloaded to factory standard trying to aliviate the problem to no avail.
Is it possible to play PC games online using a wireless network? I am looking to play pc games like WOW and Counter Strike Source online. The problemis that I connect to the internet through a wireless network with a high speed connection. Somethies the reception isnt that great(like 11 Mbps). How is the XBOX 360 Pelican Wireless Gaming Network Adapter? I need wireless internet for my XBOX 360 and i was wondering if anyone knew how well the XBOX 360 Pelican Wireless Gaming Network Adapter worked? Is it as good or almost as good as the official wireless adapter? Its $70 cheaper so as long as it doesn't cause lag while playing online it would be worth it. So does anyone own it want to tell me how it performs? Thanks in advance.
Why is my ping low in games on my college network? My college network is pretty fast, I've gotten up to 5-6 MB download speed. However when I play Team Fortress, my ping is usually above 100, even if the server said it was 30 on the list. Sometimes when I play WoW I notice some lag as well. Is there a way to fix this? IE opening/closing ports and the like or am I stuck like this? Thanks for any help.
how to get rid of lag spikes for windows vista? i play games and get lag spikes. how do i stop it? im using a windows vista home premium. my PC is the hp s3200t. how do i configure my settings to make it work? also, can i make a permanent connection so that my wireless stops searching for other networks and use the network i have?
If I set up a static ip address on one device in my network? Do I need to set all the devices to static ip addresses. The network runs slow but really is good enough, I just want to decrease the heavy amount of lag I experience on XBOX 360. My main motivation is not hassling my room mates or messing up any of their existing comfortable connections.
Limit the bandwidth available to one of the computers on my network? I play street fighter anniversary collection (street fighter III: third strike) on Xbox Live and whenever someone else on my home network accesses a webpage or downloads an mp3 it starts to lag a bit. Is there a way I can limit them to a small amount of the total bandwidth available so that I won't get lag spikes when they download a webpage or do something on the network? I already checked my router settings and I don't see anything like this. I think I said in my original post that I already checked my router settings, but thanks for trying to answer "extremelysexyromantic". My router is a airnet awr014g. I am fairly computer literate and I didn't find any options to do any kind network throttling. There was certainly no 'qos' option. This is obviously not a top tier router so that's probably the reason, but it would be nice if people would respond to what I said, which is that I've ALREADY CHECKED THE ROUTER SETTINGS and I need a software solution. My apologies if I've somehow overlooked something important but I literally went through every menu in the router. This isn't a linksys folks. :P
Is Westell A Bad Router For Gaming If I Have 5 Different Systems On The Network? How Can I Port Forward So That I Wont Lag When Someone Gets Onto The Network Basically My Dad Who Never Gets Off.
How can I make my xbox live connection better with a wireless connection? (no lag)? You see, I don't have internet anymore. And I discovered how to connect my xbox to xbox live without spending $100 on the wireless network device, but rather with a wireless network usb adapter. I "borrow" the connection from my neighbors. And i was just wondering if there was any possible way to improve the connection and have no lag while playing games online?
Will Tmobile 3G network be up and running in Atlanta when the G1 phone is released? I noticed on the website that Atlanta actually has one of the biggest 3G spots in the southeast. But then after some more reading I saw that Atlanta was on the 'to do' list of 3G networks to be ready (supposedly) when the G1 drops. Does anyone know if Atlanta's 3G network is already up and running or will it be lagging behind after the release on the 22nd? Is the map on Tmobile's site accurate or no?
show me a website that explains game lag when playing online games? sometime my halo 2 network games are fast and lag-free, other times they are slow and lag up the as$. so is it the modders ruining my game or is it low bandwidth on the host side, wtf?
What is the best network setup to play online games? My dad has setup a wireless Linksys Belkin 802.11g on my laptop computer and the router/hub thing is two stories down in the basement. I have a fluctuating internet connection, and I sometimes lag during Warcraft 3 (PLEASE WAIT) at unpredictable times. What can I do to get a better connection? My dad wants to keep the router thing in the basement. Does it have to be down there? Can I move it one floor up? What does it connect to? What is the common way to play online? What is the recommended distance for a wireless setup?
How to tell whether someone is connecting to my wireless network? I am using a D-Link DL-524UP Router ( Wireless Router ) and i am experiencing a lot of " lag " and the performance of my internet is really poor.Even though i set a WEP encryption key , i would want to check who is connecting to my router with their Laptops or wireless adapters... How do I set my Xbox 360 a wireless network priority? My family has 2 wireless laptops and whenever they surf the web, my xbox 360 lags a storm, so how do I make it so my 360 won't lag (Highest priority) ?
How can I calculate the resonant frequency of an LC network when I only know the phase angle? So here is the problem; I have an LC network that is being driven by an inverter at exactly 50 KHz. My inverter also has a feature that can measure the phase angle of the voltage/current in degrees (leading or lagging). From this information, I want to be able to determine the the actual resonant frequency of the network. Generally the resonant point is +/- 10 KHz and the phase angle is +/- 60°. Thanks for that answer and useful information! Let me try to add a little more information: The inverter is driving a large network with unknown L and C. The inverter can resolve peak voltage, peak current and phase angle. From the information avaiable it is trivial to determine the real power and from that approximate C and R(just trust me on that one). The purpose of the exercise is to find a way to resolve L using the available information. My original idea was to calculate F-res and then plug in all of the variables and solve for L in the standard resonant freq equation F-res = 1 /(2 * PI * SQRT(L*C)).
How do i make a secure wireless internet network? i have a working network, but it's unsecure. I want to know how to make it secure. Cuz people always freakin' connect to it when im using it and it lags me up. i have a Vista if that helps you explain it to me better.
I keep having co-op lag on Halo 3? When my friends play together, they have no problem with co-op campaigns. But when I join with any of them, the game, for all of them, will spontaneously jerk and freeze up. Not like network lag, but actual software/system lag. I have a 512kbps DSL connection with open NAT and I'm a wired network. Also, my Halo disc isn't installed to the hard drive. What could be causing it?
Why do i Lag so much when i play MLB 07 the show on ps3? i have a wireless connection i used to have cable and this never happend my connection is status is around 80 to 95 percent whats wrong sometimes this happens on resistance too i start playing then i see other people lagging then its like when i try to kill them it say network connection error then i have to quit the game.
What really happens is that when my rival pitches the ball , I make a swing but the swing is late even being on time , because of the distance between the two computers so what I see in the game isn't what is really happening , what I see is something that happened in about 1 second.I don't know if you can understand me , but I need a solution for this problem(can be a program or other option) PLEASEEEEEEEEE! thank you.

Which small network (4 users) wireless router has the richest management / troubleshooting features? Users on my home wireless network complain about outages, variable lag times, can't reconnect, takes too long to reconnect. I want to see what's really happening with a great log. On usb wifi ethernet adapters, will longer usb length cause lag? I have 6 computers in my house networked on a wifi router. 1HTPC, 2 laptop, 3 desktop. I am getting a lower signal quality and bandwith from two of the pc in my house. I installed a high gain antenna for my linksys router. It helped but you can only do so much going through closed doors and walls. I was thinking of getting two usb 802.11g adapter, connect through a 10' usb cable extension and attaching them on the outer door jam of these rooms to increase the signal. They would have direct line of site with the router only about 20 feet away. Would there be any lag issues with a usb cable this long? (moving the router close is not feasible. The other alternative would be to buy antennas with extension cable for my pci cards, but I am thinking they would lose consierable reception over this distancem, and that I am better off moving the "whole" device closer.

Why do mygames lag on internet and lan play? whenver i try to play a game on the internet or on my lan, they lag horribly. sometimes they dont even load. when i play the game offline, they work smoothly and almost perfectly. i think that there might be something wrong with my network setup or something, but i am not sure. please help...... my pc: intel pentium D dual core, 2 gb ram, dsl connection that only has problems with games on this certain pc. the other computers on my network work fine. no, the other users are not using too much of the internet connection because we have played with 3 computers and there have been no problems. it is just this new computer i am using. for some reason it only has a problem with playing games online. i have the video card it came with, ATI Radeon XPRESS 200, but when i play offline some of the games work good. i think the video card may be the problem though, not the internet.

Computer Networking Torrent Lag? My inlaw runs torrent downloads daily using bittorrent. As the internet is shared over a network the torrent software will make the entire network extremely slow and unusable to anyone but her. I have tried assigning priorities in the Linksys router settings so that she recieves low priority however it still refuses to let anyone else use the internet. There are no shared resources like sharing files on the network just shared internet. She refuses to stop downloading torrents, how do i defeat bittorrent!!

Which Is Causing The Problem In My Wireless Network? Ok I recieve my internet on my laptop via a wireless network and i play online games on it... I keep getting bad lag on the actual web browser and it is not the actual web browser itself. I know that is is the wireless network which is causing the problem because when i plug my ethernet cable directly into my laptop the lag stops on my browser. I used to have a linksys router and I used to get problems with that so I bought a new top of the range one. It is a D-Link. Now i don't know which in my network is causing the problem is it the built in wireless card in my laptop or is it the router downstairs. My laptop card is a (wireless B) and my router is (wireless G) Could this be the problem. Please tell me how i could find out which is causing the problem or weather i can resolve this lag by changing anything. Please help ty The signal reads very good.
Why does our new Windows 2003 network crawl? We are having problems with our conversion from a Novell server to a Windows 2003 server. Programs will crawl that require heavy data transfer. I have pinged serveral computers on the network and they typically are showing a 1% packet loss rate. Is this normal? Do you think the problem could be with one of our switches. We are currently running 1/100/1000 ethernet switches on our network of aboout 40 computers and 8 printers. Are there any common problems amoung Windows 2003 servers that would cause lag in network speed?
Want to hook PS3, Dish, and Xbox 360 to network in different room from router...? At first I thought I had to run an ethernet cable to each room, this would be a problem because of a lack of ports and the need for all of those cables. Someone told me all I need is switch in the entertainment system, then I can run one ethernet cable to the switch and all of the devices to it. Are there any cons to this setup? Will it cause any lag for online gaming?
