Speed Up Your Internet Connection

My computer gets horrible network lag, tracerts time out. What do I do?

I'm on Comcast high speed internet, but I get high latency and I can't seem to fix it. I tried a tracert, but only the first one got a result, all other 29 came back timed out.

1. I have comcast too but I know our connection is NOT secure. If it's not secure someone can just use your connection. Find out if you are secure. If you are wireless just go under connections and check the wireless connection to see if it's secure. That's the only thing I can think of besides getting tech support for your connection. They can test it from the office. Good luck I hate computer issues lb
2. If you're behind a router or a soft firewall, you'll need to allow certain programs to send/receive packets via the software's settings. Beyond that, I'm guessing a bad hop.
3. Powercycle - used to work for 'em - works most of the time. Turn of all computers (if on a network) unplug the router (again modem) and unplug the modem (standby or power buttons arent effective for the modem and router. unplug the power source completely. Leave for 30 seconds. then plug in your modem - wait till all the normal lights turn on (cept the communication ones cuz your router is stilll unplugged!) then plug in your router - give it 10-15 seconds to boot (most are pretty quick) and then finally turn on the comptuers. turning off or disabling nic's or network access cards on the computer are not enough. shut down the computer completely. the reason for this is these units tend to build up junk data and after a while it gives less room for the good data to pass through. If this doesnt work - then there could be a problem with comcast in your area; too many users on; you are using a bit-torrent client; or something is wrong with your network setup.
