Computer Networking Torrent Lag?

My inlaw runs torrent downloads daily using bittorrent. As the internet is shared over a network the torrent software will make the entire network extremely slow and unusable to anyone but her. I have tried assigning priorities in the Linksys router settings so that she recieves low priority however it still refuses to let anyone else use the internet. There are no shared resources like sharing files on the network just shared internet. She refuses to stop downloading torrents, how do i defeat bittorrent!!

  1. The leg generated is most likely due to the upload bandwidth available from your provider as opposed to the download bandwidth. The upload is generally much smaller. The torrent client that I use (azures, or whatever they call it now) has the capability to limit how much is sent upstream. Worst case scenerio, since you're the administrator of the router, set it up so they don't have access during the day when you're wanting to use it. Allow access from her MAC address only at night untill she changes her habits or finds a way to cap the upstream use so there's more for everyone.
  2. Just report them....then they would get sued.....and they will finallly leave leave the house and leave you alone!!
