How do people from Timewarner install cable internet (Roadrunner)?

Because I know you can do the self kit yourself thingy but what exactly do they do? Do they do anything outside the house? Cause I only want them for internet and I have a cable outlet right by my computer. And I know there are people in my neighborhood with roadrunner aswell.
