Speed Up Your Internet Connection

Is it possible to connect to my hard drive of my PC using my laptop through the wireless broadband connection?

My PC is connected to my broadband router using the ethernet cable. I can connect to the internet using my laptop on the wireless connection also which is normal. But is it possible to connect to the hard drive of my PC from my laptop through this wireless connection or is it only able to connect to the internet?

  1. Yes - you need to set up a folder on your pc as a 'shared' folder - and create a network. Then you can copy/swap/exchange files between the two computers.
  2. YOu should be able to connect...but you will need to set your C: drive to being a shared resource. Once it is shared, you should see it on you laptop when you got to My Computer (I'm assuming your using Windows) To share your C: crive got to My Computer, select the C drive and right click, select Sharing and Security, then select the option to Share and enter a name for the shared resource. The link below gives some good step by step information.
  3. Yes as long as your on the same subnet and workgroup. Make sure that you have the same username and password on each machine. then Map a Network drive to \\computername\c$ as long and you have the same username and password and are in the same workgroup you should be able to connect to the c:drive of the other machine. I do this all the time rather then sharing the drive. You can also put in \\computername\c$ in to address bar in windows explorer and also make it there if you don't want to map a drive.
  4. easiest way is to add a wi fi router to the pc and connect using intel proset wireless(an easy software easily available on the net)
  5. yes. Use vnc http://www.realvnc.com/download.html install the server on the pc you can run the viewer even in ram ( it is 200k) or install. you get into your computer by typing the ip into the server address bar on the vnc viewer. To track the ip or even give it a name for easy use you can use the no-ip service. http://www.no-ip.com/ you install an ip tracking program on the pc. It beams to the no-ip service you enter the name that you have given (say screwoff.no-ip.com) into the vnc viewer instead of the ip Lastly if there is no router it easy. If there is a router you will have to open up specific ports Help here: http://portforward.com/ remember as well you will have to open ports on the firewalls on the pc ( windows xp + whatever else you have) You may be able do it all with a shared folder using Hamachi. It seamlessly creates a fast , no configuaration ( easy to set up) VPN ( virtual private network) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamachi https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/ However the beauty of the vnc setup is that you have full control of your computer remotely.
