Can I use a regular wireless router for cable internet?

I have cable internet. Can I just buy a regular wireless router and connect the Ethernet cable from my cable router to a regular wireless router and make it work? Or do i have to buy a cable wireless router?

  1. sure I have got that now, wireless router come with ethernet ports anyway. My wife has her connection wireless I have mine cabled to the wireless router. A cable wireless router? How can something be wired and yet wireless? A cable is a wire. Wireless routers come usually with 4 ports for cables at the back. All it means to be wireless is that the router also transmits radio internet connection to antenna network cards and adapters. A normal cable router has no radio feature.
  2. You can. I used a regular wireless router with Road Runner for many years. No problem using a laptop throughout the house and patio.
  3. Ive never heard of a "regular" wireless router as opposed to a "cable" router, and I know quite a bit about computers... There are just Routers and Wireless Routers. You cant use a router with Dial up, so obviously it was intended for Broadband service since Cable and DSL use ethernet cables from the modem to the computer. Anyways... um.. yea.. you can, that's the type of connection they are intended for.
