Can I connect to my cable internet connection with any cable cord in the house?

I've always used the cable cord in the living room, because I thought that was the only one. I just discovered a cable cord coming out of the floor in my bedroom. Can I move my computer in there and connect to the internet with that cord? When the cable guy hooks up your cable connection, is it only for one chosen cord, or does any cord in the house work? Thanks!

1. As long as the cable is "live" and has sufficient signal strength, you can use it for internet.
