How to set up cable internet connection?

Okay, I have Direct-tv television and Verizon high speed internet adsl. I want to upgrade my speed and I was looking for the direct tv internet. How can I do this? Do i just buy a cable modem and a coaxial cable splitter and just connect the splitter to the coaxial cable leading to the direct tv box and then connect the cable modem to the second outlet on the splitter? Much thanks obliged. Can someone please answer this question? I am a little confused with this networking topic.

1. Direct TV doesn't supply an internet connection, so no, you cannot do what you want to do.
