Speed Up Your Internet Connection

Why does my ADSL line get disconnected when the phone rings?

I do have an ADSL filter (splitter) but whenever the phone rings my modem gets disconnected (the DSL link light goes off). When someone's on the phone, the modem won't get connected either.

  1. your filter is busted or u connected it wrong possibly?
  2. You have at least one device connected to your phone line (other than the modem) that doesn't have a proper DSL filter. It could be a telephone, answering machine, FAX machine, alarm system, anything. Every device connected to the phone line needs a filter or you need a whole house splitter at the point of entry. Otherwise, exactly the problem you are having happens.
  3. I'd like to tell you that filter and splitter are two different things .Splitter is the one which acts as a point of entry for your telephone line you will have only one filter in your home and a cable from filter will be connected to it.A filter is one which separates voice and data signals and you should have filters installed for all the devices which use your telephone line only then your internet connection will work fine.Though your question was answered by the two I thought I can add more info to it.If you still experience issues with the line even after replacing filters then you need to contact your ISP as it might be a line issue.
